laurierobey: (The Tick-knock off all that evil)
Opinion piece from E-Week that keeps reminding me of Terry Gilliam's Brazil:

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2070382,00.asp

When I saw Brazil during my film school years, it blew me away. I never thought I'd be this close to living it.

Two paragraphs from the piece that stick out at me:

The government is asking citizens to take it on faith that the information is accurate and won't be misused by the other organizations it shares it with.

and

The Automated Targeting System is supposed to speed up and improve the effectiveness and presumably the accuracy of our national terror screening effort. But are we just creating an automated system for compiling and compounding identity errors? A system of this scope also has the potential for causing suffering and injustice on a grand scale.

The last paragraph reminds me of Brazil in particular because of the whole Tuttle/Buttle mix-up that's central to Brazil's plot.
