Our new building has a card security system to get into the parking garage, along with hang tags for each car. The card also allows you to use the elevators before and after business hours. It also allows you to get into the back doors, which you have to use before and after business hours. There are card-waving things on the stairwell doors on each floor where we are as well.

It is nice not to have to carry a key around, but I still need one to get into the server room if it's locked. The bottom line is, the card-waving things seem to be problematic, or at least the doors where the card-waving things are are problematic. Sometimes they work; sometimes they don't. Sometimes they set off alarms when they shouldn't. So, I currently see it as more trouble than a key without making me feel any more secure.

I was going to ask for one of those card wavy thing locks on the server room here.

They're okay, as long as they actually work the way they're supposed to. I have a feeling it's problems with our particular installation in this case.

have a pushbutton system and you input a code..(either electronic or manual). We have an electronic one now....

I have a feeling they added this card system for access to the suite because of the new HIPPA regulations. We deal with health clearinghouses, so we're subject to the security requirements of HIPPA (or is it HIPAA?). The thing you have to sign whenever you go to the doctor's now about privacy.

crazy acronyms...(grin)...I had card systems at both of the startups I've been involved with---but then again, it wasn't too much of a burden since I carry my keys with me almost all the time...keys in one pocket, cell phone in the other, sportbrain tethered to the hip....(grin)...MLD
