I've picked up a virus of some sort, and it's coming on strong. It's just as well we're not gaming this weekend.

I also had my 20th anniversary at work on Thursday. That means a jean jacket and $750 on two Amex gift cards. There are plenty of things I could use the cards for, but I'm leaning toward a new camera or a new computer.

There's been a rash of airbags being stolen from cars around Herndon. I honestly don't get this place.

Perhaps it's time to look into Dreamwidth? I've been having so many problems access LJ that it's gone beyond "just a momentary glitch."

Okay, so, the heat pump is 9 years old (average life is around 10), one of the three toilets needs replacing (because the faulty flush valve on the Kohler toilet would cost as much as a new toilet), and now the water heater is making gurgling noises. Let's just gut the house!

Hello internet peeps,

I've got my computer back, thanks to our network admin at work installing Windows 7 onto my new hard drive and transferring my files over. However, it seems that whatever killed my hard drive also killed my little USB wifi adapter.

I bought a Netgear adapter at Best Buy last night, but was unsuccessful in connecting it to our network. We tried it on John's computer, and it didn't work there either, but his adapter worked on my computer. So it's definitely the fault of Netgear's adapter. So it's going back to Best Buy tonight, because their customer support is no good.

My question for you all is, should I replace it with a Cisco/Linksys adapter, or Belkin? Is either one any better than the other? I care about ease of setup, reliability, speed, and customer support.

Let's see if this can recover my HD long enough to gt the computer to boot again...

Ok, Spinrite isn't going to be able to recover my HD. Critical error it can't recover from. I think my HD is completely toasted.

Okay diagnostic tests show the HD has failed on my Dell XPS 420. It's about 3 years old. I can replace the HD, and have to figure out how to get the new one all set up. I have backups of data, fortunately.

Is it worth replacing the HD? I don't want to do this and then have some other component fail 2 months down the road.

I'm about to head up to bed, but I wanted to thank everyone for their well-wishes. It's been a long day, due mostly to having to rehydrate after the surgery before I could go home. Anyway, time to get more sleep! See you on the flip-side!
