We saw the movie this morning at 10. Overall, the movie's good enough, but I'm not thrilled with Cuaron's direction or the overall "look" of the movie. The look of the previous two was a lot closer to the way I imagined Harry Potter looking when I read the books. Cuaron went for a darker look and grittier, realistic feel, and that just doesn't jibe with Harry Potter, IMO. I liked the costumes and art direction better for the previous two. It's still a good enough movie, just not as close as the previous two.
They did quite a bit of editing to get it down to two hours. Unfortunately, that left out quite a bit of information, some of it seemingly essential. As
the_gneech said, I would've spent less time showing shrunken heads everywhere and put in more of the information that was communicated in the book. They're going to have to include some information in the next movie, I think, but that one's already going to be gutted in order to make it into a movie from the massive book it is.
