Workout reports
Dec. 27th, 2005 08:42 amWho knows if I'll keep up with it, but here's my workout report. (I've been working out for a while now; we've just added a couple of different things into the mix.) We tried DDR yesterday with our new pads and Ultramix 2. After some initial problems getting things set up and learning the game controls, we were finally able to try a few songs. It was fun and a good workout. We'll have to try it with workout mode next time.
This morning, I tried out my other new workout tool, "Yourself! Fitness" for the X-Box. Now I know why I've never like aerobics that much. I can't do the moves easily just from watching someone do it at full speed. DDR has a limited set of movements, so it's easier, but it's limited to a cardio workout. Cardio's useful, but it's not enough by itself. Yourself! does have a tutorial for each move, but to slow it down, you have to hold down a control on the controller, which means you can't really do the move at the same time easily. The only other problem I see with it is that if I'm doing an exercise where I'm facing the ceiling or the floor, I can't be looking at the screen to see "Maya," the personal trainer, and the moves she's doing. I'm sure all of this will get easier with practice. Otherwise, it seems like a great program. It even has a "meditation garden" where Maya leads you through a Yoga workout. The program's great for customizing itself to you, your fitness level, and your goals. It can incorporate some other fitness equipment too (i.e., hand weights, stability ball, step, and heart monitor), if you own them.
My goal is to use the DDR, Yourself!, my stationary recumbent bike, and the Bowflex. That should be enough variety to keep me interested and to get me cardio, strength, and flexibility training. So far, DDR and Yourself! have been much more thorough workouts than I've gotten from the stationary bike alone, so maybe they'll produce more results.
